About
A senior media leader who still understands the work.

My career as a journalist started in 2011 at The Big Issue in South Africa. My first assignment? Covering a protest outside the Egyptian embassy in Cape Town during the Arab Spring. Hosni Mubarak was toppled later that week. Since then, my work has moved across reporting, television, digital video, podcasts, studio production, and media leadership.
I learnt the practical side of production at Made Television, where a startup newsroom meant doing... everything: shooting, editing, presenting, reporting, producing, scripting, directing galleries, and mixing sound. At The Sun, I produced video for the website and social channels during the peak Facebook era, when audience growth through social video was central to the business.
Then, I joined The Independent in 2017 as Head of Video, leading a small team focused mainly on website and social video. Over eight and a half years, I reshaped that into a sophisticated multimedia operation: YouTube grew from a few thousand subscribers to a network of channels with millions; we launched on entirely new platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and even CTV, developed podcast brands including In The Room, and finally built Independent Studio. My fantastic journey with The Independent ended in a Director of Video Operations role as part of the management of Independent Studio, Independent Media's end-to-end talent-led development, production, and distribution studio. My value is in bridging senior strategy with hands-on craft: the edit, the shoot, the studio, the podcast workflow, and the systems creative teams need to do their best work.
